The mountaintop Monte Rosso vineyard overlooking Sonoma Valley is a unique place on earth. Decomposed volcanic soil creates the red earth between the gnarled vines that were planted generations ago. Water is scarce since the sun bathes the vineyard daily, above the fog, but cooling breezes come in from two distinct maritime influences: San Pablo Bay to the south on some days and the Pacific Ocean to the west on other days. From the height of land, on clear days, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, and all around, the unspoiled source of Rancho Zabaco Toreador and Monte Rosso Zinfandels.
